Valentine's Day 2016. NYC first sub zero in 22 years

Dropped from 21 to 18 in the past 10 minutes. Windy too.

Right now it's -15 in old forge NY, -13 in Saranac Lake NY and 7 in Albany.

This s the region this air is coming straight down from and this is our ideal setup. No modifications over the Midwest first.

If we only had a decent snow cover. I still think NYC MAKES A GOOD RUN AT 0. I'd like to finally put that 22 year barrier behind them.

15.9 and dropping here with howling winds. Very dry 44%. 29.75 R

9 minutes later dropped to 14.5!

At 2:30 Old forge NY -15, Lake Placid NY -16, Albany 4

Currently single digits now IMBY 9.7

I'm saying NYC touches -1 at 7am tomorrow morning.

I'm at 16 degrees. I went out to the store and now I can't feel my face.

Ran ti store to get some groceries and holy cow winds were pushing the shopping carts all over the lot!!

22.1 F with a 31 mph gusty wind here on my home weather station...looking to break my lowest recorded temp of -0.3F IMBY tomorrow morning!

Maybe someone can help me understand. Is there a wind chill warning? And if so, why hasn't the NWS issued one??

Nvm, I see they have for northern counties. Mine as well issue it region wide. People take warnings mote serious than advisories. It's downright dangerous out. Especially tonight

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds
will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in
frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
Outdoor exposure should be limited. If you are heading outdoors...
dress in layers and keep your hands and head covered to protect
against frostbite

The criteria for southern NY, all of CT and NNJ and CNJ for a wind chill warning is -25. In your area they are forecasting only, and I use that term jokingly, wind chills of -15 to -24 so therefore no warning so far just an advisory. It's semantics.

12Z GFS had a projected 7pm temperature for NYC of 15 and a forecast low of 5. I think it's way high.

Its 17 at 3PM in the park and I'll bet it's near 10-11 degrees by 7PM.

The winds were blowing me all over the turnpike today. Down here near Philly with the open areas where the farms are the winds were whipping across the turnpike..white knuckle driving down here! 18° here in Burlington and 13° at home

The all time record low in New York City is -15 on February 9, 1934. They're not touching that one.

For tomorrow it's 2, and I think they're going to break it.

Skins in January 94 NYC got to -2 which was the last time they hit 0 but far from the all time record of -15.

The big story in January 1994 was the lows hit in the suburbs of NYC. There were readings of -20 to -25 throughout the Hudson valley. There were a few readings of -30 to -32 in NWNJ.

NOT WIND CHILLS THOSE WERE actual Temperatures.

It was -23 IMBY in Orange County that morning. The coldest temperature I've ever experienced in my life and I lived in Wisconsin for several years.
