Re: April 2020 Observations and Discussion
Like I typically do this time of year I lock the long range thread and consolidate most discussion in these monthly threads.
Expect cooler than normal conditions to persist another two weeks. We are seeing high latitude blocking (-NAO) across the Atlantic and a +PNA. The MJO is active in phases that favor cooler weather.
When it crashes to the center is the time we should expect to see a step-change to sustained warm up. I think the first week of May will be around normal, some days below, but by the time we get to the second week it should be noticeably warmer around here.

Re: April 2020 Observations and Discussion
This morning at 6 am, 45 degrees and hard to say how much snow. We woke up to about three. Maybe it was more. I have to think there was some melting going on given the ground is warmer. Nice to see the woods white.

33.6° and snowing, no accumulation.
Went back and forth between rain and snow all night, nothing sticking, ten to fifteen miles to my NW 3-4 inches. The final parting insult to the worst winter ever.

Re: April 2020 Observations and Discussion
Glad you guys are enjoying April snow, I am perfectly happy not having snow. I just want 60s-70s it will help my mood with this awful staying home. Anyone see 240 hrs on GFS, woah thats one bad noreaster, hybrid I dunno what to call it for this time of year, not that it will happen but bears watching, would put this past Mondays storm to shame. Hope you are all doing well.

Re: April 2020 Observations and Discussion
Bottomed out at 27.8° this morning. Definitely looking forward to 60° later today.
Where was this pattern December 15th through March?
Amazing that so many seem to be complaining about how cold April has been and most stations are now within a half degree plus or minus normal right now for the month (NYC -0.2° through the 18th, Newark +0.2° and Poughkeepsie +0.5°.
We've grown so accustomed to above normal temperatures we've forgotten what normal feels like, or at least what use to be normal as the planet continues to warm.

Re: April 2020 Observations and Discussion
Not impressive on radar at the moment, maybe if these clouds break a little it will provide a little pop, but it doesn't usually pan out for severe weather for us here in NENJ... we'll see

Re: April 2020 Observations and Discussion
Yeah I dunno, a possible watch of only 40% is mesoscale discussion for central jersey sounth. Nothing up this way. Had some rain and one clap thunder a little bit ago, been showers for hours now. Wind is coming up a bit lets see if the wind advisory holds true. I would say yes as passages of fronts often do yield some pretty strong winds. Its a short duration advisory only 9 hrs. 5pm to 2am. Then a freeze, 29 they say grr, too cold. Where was that cold back in winter?
