Godzilla 2022 JAN 28th-29th Observations

Good Morning!

Since many are already seeing snow falling this morning, I thought it would be good to create the observations thread early. For those who do not know, model trends and discussions should not be brought up here. That is what the other thread is for. This area is strictly for looking at radars, water vapory, real time observations outside, etc. etc.

For those wanting a nice radar website, one of my lab mates (Dr. Mark Nissenbaum) turned on some northeast radars for the storm.

...BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM EST
SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations
of 11 to 15 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

* WHERE...Northwest Suffolk and Southwest Suffolk Counties.

* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The
hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. Gusty
winds could bring down tree branches.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Blizzard conditions are expected Saturday
morning into early Saturday afternoon. White out conditions are
likely at times.

Hoping we get a blizzard warning here in NYC area, we usually do but last out of all the areas, they need to see western extent of this and how much winds will be, 50mph on LI may be too low unfortunently. Hoping you guys keep ur power. No leaves and fluffy snow will not make for anything too bad.

We had light snow earlier, left a coating on cold surfaces, they put brine down last night so the roads are just wet.

It’s been snowing continuously here since about 6:45 am.

0.5” of new snow here.

The town salted my street earlier this morning so it’s just wet, but cars, driveways, etc are getting covered.

Light snow in Piscataway since about 8 AM.

I'm unable to upload a picture at this time. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Little light snow again after it stopped earlier around 9am.

Greenpoint, Brooklyn: 31.8 degrees, light snow, on and off, all morning; all non-traffic surfaces lightly covered.

Been snowing lightly but steadily all morning in midtown Manhattan. All untreated surfaces are coated.

Light snow all morning in Hopatcong, just over an inch accumulation. Roads just wet but it coated all our old snow with a nice fresh layer of white so I'm happy.

Still snowing here.  Has been snowing continuously for 6 hours now.  Alternates between tiny and large flakes.

0.75” accumulation so far today.

I picked up bonus 1.75" snow this morning. 32/30.7 sn-

Currently 34° snowing lightly not really sticking yet.

Another radar site which I like because it is easy to see if it is rain or snow, shows intensity really well, and you can do a 30 hr. loop.

32*, still snowing a bit, maybe a half inch or so. Not sticking on a good bit of the driveways here since it warmed up enough for them to melt off, but some where sun doesn't normally hit are covered.

32* and have had snow flurries all morning. 1 more thing to take care of this afternoon and the snow watching (and drinking) will begin!
