I see it online but oddly my phone did not go off. Guess t-mobile isn't sending emergency alerts? It doesn't seem to be raining that hard.frank 638 wrote:Just got a alert on my phone of flash flood warning until 11 pm

A lot of devastation up there. Also West Point got hit hard, water up to car roofs.

Wow road to west point (3rd video), that girl was really dumb for running up to that collapsed road, easily could dropped more. That will take a very very long time to repair, hopefully that doesn't leave an area stranded.

Closest to me is Harriman with 3.03 inches, thankfully a lot less than West Point which was inundated.Cloudy and muggy but radar shows everything is N and E of me now.

We picked up 2.10" from the storms and rains yesterday and overnight. Much more comfortable now and should be tomorrow as well.
Thursday rains look to move back in.
This is horrible:

"This is an extremely dangerous situation and will equal Irene in 2011 and the 1927 flood. If you live, work, or travel near the White River evacuate uphill now! The White River will cover the entire valley in some areas, and there will be widespread, devastating damage. The force of water will inundate roads and highways along the river and will likely wash away sections of roadway. Homes and businesses near the river will be inundated and some may be swept off their foundations water and may sustain structural damage. Portions of Routes 14 and 107 will be covered and will be damaged or destroyed. Route 14 will be flooded in several locations. Route 14 west of West Hartford, VT will be flooded. There will be widespread flooding of fields and lowlands throughout the White River Valley."

Re: July 2023 Observations and Discussion
The flooding in VT is unreal, tops Irene by a large margin. Ludlow VT and Okemo are in ruins, my parents small town of Belmon, VT north of Ludlow is impassable doe to the lake flooding into their only road. The damn was rebuild but if it breaks it will unleash a entire lake into this small 1000 pop town (doubt much would survive). Luckily my parents house is on one of the upper areas and could never become flooded other than ground saturation and basement issues.

Okemo resort and town of Ludlow. Authorities say this tops Irene and flood of 1970, parts of Okemo are now unstable and the resort itself has major damage.

This is always why I look a little side-eyed when people say "we need the rain." I've never seen a catastrophic drought in this region of the country. Usually they resolve themselves with a few rain storms within a few months. But I have definitely seen a lot of catastrophic floods around here that have broken droughts.

Good point. When you say it like that, I agree. My stream never came up from all the rain. I can’t figure it. I am very surprised Highland and West Point took it on the chin. We’ve seen six inches of rain before but why and how this time occurred what occurred…did not see that coming

Re: July 2023 Observations and Discussion
My parents are up just near Ludlow which was devastated by the flood, I think 1st or 2nd hardest hit area. My parents home is fine it is very high up but their small town of belmot did have a flood from the lake into the spillway which flooded several houses. They hope to be able top go to Rutland to get food because Ludlow is completely shutdown (saw a image of a dumpster on top of a picnic table which means the water picked it up and left it on top, crazy.. And if you haven't seen Okemo mountain resort had a partial collapse into Ludlow and the resort itself is also heavily damaged on the mountain. My dad who has spent a large amount of his life up there believes that the over constructing of more and more slopes allowed for more ground movement due to trees not being there to soakup any water, also the new buildings leaving large open spaces, wouldn't be surprised if the resort may have to close permenently as they whole mountain is unstable.weatherwatchermom wrote:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12286737/Vermont-braces-catastrophic-flooding-disaster-dam-near-capital-Montpelier-FAIL.html

The devastation in VT is so sad but it shows natures fury. Never doubt nor mess with Big Momma (our Mom on here too!);because she will always have the last say. Like Bill said be careful be careful what you wish for.

Re: July 2023 Observations and Discussion
VT specifically Ludlow is getting hammered again, flash flood warning. Officials up there said even 1 inch would result in similar flooding so my guess is with the warning saying near 3 inches that Ludlow is devastated again. And another round tomorrow and Sunday looks like a washout for us with 2+ inches rain. This is looking more and more like the new norm.

Re: July 2023 Observations and Discussion
Horrible, I wonder how highland falls faired, not that theres really much left to that town anyways, cant really do much more damage than whats done. Whole area for tonight into tomorrow is in moderate risk area from WPC for flash flooding 1-2 with locally 3-5+. I am out here in CT and we had quite a storm last night around 4am, or this morning rather.docstox12 wrote:Another T Storm passed through.Around 1.75 inches as of 3 PM.West Point which got 8 inches a few days ago, had another 3.86 as of 3 PM.69 degrees, light rain, light wind.

Woke up to something new and different at 5:40 am-------a T Storm!
72 degrees ,heavy rain. Multiple warnings up here.Soutwest of me a bit is a tornado warning! At this juncture, an eyedropper full of water will cause flash flooding.Be careful, anybody coming up here.Thankfully, thank the Good Lord, yesterday was a nice day, my Sister and two nephews, one with his wife, visited. My one nephew took his usual route, the Palisades Parkway exiting on the 7 Lakes Drive traffic circle, but that area of the Palisades Parkway was still closed from the flooding last week.He was re routed to get to Monroe.

Amazing how sputhern westchester and nyc always seem.to stay out of any exciting weather. Looks like its over except for LI snd CT. Dunno why a tornado watch was just issued for westchester the line has moved east. Did it even rain here i just woke up. LI is getting pummeled up to 7 inches+ with the training storms off the atlantic. Major flooding in Philly 3 dead, this is all so nots all this rain, I do see that future cast has the area filling in from west so it is not close to over.
