December 2023 Observations and Discussion

Flurries in the air. Second observed snowfall in a week (a coating with the first). What's going on here

A few lazy flakes drifting down in New Hope, 35*

Light to at times moderate snow past hour 34.1/31.3 Mid levels cold enough surface a bit warm. But this is enjoyable to see!

So far an inch on the day, with maintenance snow likely to come throughout the day. Looks and feels festive, I love it!

Mod snow? Maintenance snow? What is this world you both speak of?

37 degrees, mostly cloudy, slight breeze.
Did my 1 3/4 mile walk around the park in town earlier with snow flurries and as moderate snow shower.Wonderful mood flakes with the town's Christmas decorations up.

I think tomorrow is a decent shot at some more snow. Highly elevated areas of the Poconos may add another inch to the maintenance snow. For those NW of I95 could be a measurable snowfall (>= .1"). The surface will be marginal outside of the elevated areas.

That reminds me of the first time my best friend from college (we went to SUNY Albany, he grew up in Katonah) came up for a visit. He thought Albany was cold during the winter, and my other best friend (from childhood, who transferred to our school sophomore year) and I tried telling him that where we grew up was even colder and it pretty much snowed every day in a typical winter. He of course didn’t believe us lol well, we finally got him up here and the first words out of his mouth were “Holy s***, you guys weren’t kidding!” Haha once you leave that urban corridor and get up in elevation, it’s a whole different world, especially this time of year haha

For the record, and as defined by me and my dad, a maintenance snow is any combination of snow showers, squalls, and or periods of snow of varying intensity that accumulate at a rate sufficient to offset the rates of compaction and/or melting in a given period of time, usually on a daily basis haha

Great call by Niziol on Monday - Polar energy isnt cathing up to the Southern Vort until its over Johnson City Tenn instead of Mississippi!

That wind and rain map matches up well with the site I go on, its called weather.us if you have never used it. Might be slightly higher on the gusts but looks like a area wide HWW might be needed at very least advisory. Not a nice time, if it was snowing it would be awesome fun.

You probably can get some tail end lake snow in that area as well.Anyway, perfect for the Christmas and New Year Holidays. may your maintenance keep maintaining!

Got a little taste of mood flakes today.Like Mugsy , had flurries in the sun.Very cool, like little crystals coming down.

Right now, 36 degrees, partly cloudy , slight breeze and popcorn snow showers around.

Some mood flakes flying in the flatlands. Praise be to God! Lol. Love the mood flakes.

40* breezy winds out of the north at 14moh has that snow look and feel but no little flakes falling. Hope everyone who saw some is enjoying!

Very wintery sky today, some breaks of blue, but mostly cloudy, with some dark clouds on occasion. So far we've missed out on snow flurries. Temp hovered around 40, now 37*.

Maybe NNJ may get some action here from this band in triangle region

Light snow. 31.2/27 So far much more action well to my south with this. Frequent snows in December can be a good harbinger of things to come for the rest of the winter. I'd like to keep seeing it even if amounts are modest...

32* with light snow/flurries. The intensity has varied since about 8 a.m. from just flurries to sometimes a steady light snow. Nothing really sticking other than a dusting on some colder surfaces, but it definitely adds to the holiday mood.

So far a repeat of yesterday's lazy flakes in New Hope, 33*

I don't have a temperature read but a few flurries (or what my fiancé calls 'big dust') flying here in East Village nyc.

32 degrees, flurries calm winds.Another mood flake day.

wow. Is this like a svr tstorm type wind thing or longer duration? Yonkers 60 mph thats def go cause some outages and likes from li and east ct ri and ma. Meanwhile snow flurries at 37.
