No sleep, no productivity at work..... it is exciting for us to see how these storms develop and to try to understand the dynamics behind them....hope you get to use your car soon!

I thought that was illegal now in NYC. I remember the 95-96 winter they had to do that. In more recent years I've seen snow melting machines a few times but I think they only pull those out in extreme cases and/or for major events like new yrs eve in times sq etc.
Only time I seen such measures taken outside Manhattan was after the blizzard of 96 when I saw the city truck snow away from busier streets in the bx.
NWS 10-14 for (parts of) NYC..nice!

I think upton raised totals because they bought into the CCB or backend snow. there snow totals are for the entire storm while other mets are just giving front end totals like accu wx. most of the models show significant CCB snows even more than the front end snows for some places. so I think upton is correct in their snow totals. also temps today were several degrees below guidance. i'm at 19* right now was forecast at 23*. this could come into play later on. we shall see

Maybe in NYC, not in NJ that I can think of. 3 years back when we were getting pounded with snow week after week, Edgewater and Weehawken were dumping snow by the truck loads into the Hudson. There was nowhere to park in those towns.

Has this come about because of the CCB or other factors?

No guys the EPA and state DEP's passed a law after the 95-96 winter that NO ROAD or PARKING LOT SNOW shall be dumped in lakes, rivers, or streams due to the chemicals they encompass that would be detrimental to the environment. This is why they came up with those smelters - Snow melters that cities have at their disposal. They may dump in parks, parking lots but they cannot be adjacent to these bodies of water.

IMO GFS is garbage, time to stop looking at it, still way off compared to other models. Time to focus in on short range models.
