I usually dont put mine up until it starts to cool down, ill wait until after next weeks soaker then put em up. After that it may get interesting pattern wise.

Yes! It's annoying. I'll try to fix it this weekend. If I can't I'm taking it away haha

I remember warlock from the ABC board. He said he refused to put lights up until it snowed. I'm sure he went plenty of Decembers without putting them up. Last year it snowed on my birthday and two years before that I believe it did too.

If this year ends up above normal it would make it the 4th year in a row. the chances of that happening are low. maybe mike (math) can look up how many times we had above normal snowfall for four consecutive years.HectorO wrote:algae888 wrote:Jman my expectations for this winter is much lower than the previous ones. That doesn't mean that we will not experience any winter weather of course we will. to have a 4th year in a row of above normal snowfall.....well that doesn't happen very often.
4? Are you including 11/12? Because that winter was awful.
2012/13 was not an above normal snowfall year, at least not in NYC, it was pretty much an average year by all historical standards.
There were 26.1 inches that season in Central Park, the historical average is 28.8 inches and the 30 year average is 25.8, so we've had 2 consecutive seasons above average. Of course the last 2 years have been over 50 inches in NYC and that has only happened in consecutive years 4 times.
If NYC did go over 50 inches this season it would be the first time that has happened in 3 consecutive years. With this current pattern the odds of that happening are about 1,000 to 1 against.

Yup, though over time these type of coastal systems trend colder as we get closer. I am not buying into the -NAO block just yet. If that is still on the models by next week I would be VERY excited.

Any idea on the odds of this happening? Or if the date could change? I bought my dad tickets to something in the city for that afternoon and it so seems like it wasn't meant to be =\

The warmest autumn and November ever recorded in these parts will do that.

One thing that may elate folks early on this winter is the premise that if NYC metro has R+,Boston will also have a high probability of R+ with coastal systems....Especially with polar air corralled north of the border. At least Boston will not be thrashing you guys.
