Jesus. That's going to do so much damage. They're so poor, they have very little infrastructure. I hope that they are prepared, but with no infrastructure to take shelter in I am very fearful.

Wow 934mb. Good chance it will regain Cat 5 status. Pray for the folks in Haiti. They're about to get demolished.

I'm sorry I love storms but matthew is scary as hell. If he does decide to come this way and looks like that I may just head for canada. He is rapidly intensifting I think. We could see a high cat 5 than b4. Just astonishing look.nutleyblizzard wrote:

Re: HURRICANE MATTHEW: Phase 2--"The Turn"
I think the Euro is suffering from "summer lag". The upper levels looked so flat and "summerish" in previous model runs. Seems like it might be coming around to a more intense upper level system developing from the pacific disturbance(s).

Holy crap just read 10 pages, feeling really bad for the people of Haiti. We are definitely not out of the woods. going to be interesting run after run until we get a lock. If this beast comes at us it will set the area back several years. We are just getting over Sandy.

Yeah that's what has me nervous the shore area is still recovering. The beaches took a beating this past weekend from those winds and that is nothing compared to what Matthew can do

Re: HURRICANE MATTHEW: Phase 2--"The Turn"
Go go Google Earth and zoom in on Western Haiti. There really is not much there. it is the most thinly populated part of the country. You can see though a few small towns that could be wiped off the surface. The zoom in shows mostly metal clad shacks.

Les Cayes, Haiti, is going to be underneath the northeast quadrant of Matthew. 72,000 population there alone.

Re: HURRICANE MATTHEW: Phase 2--"The Turn"
I did a quick elevation check from Google Earth. On the western end of Haiti, there is an east / west mountainous range with a peak elevation of around 3,400 ft. This is only 6 miles from the coast at 0 elevation. Imagine 140 mph south winds being forced up 3,000 ft in 6 miles!!, as the hurricane passes just to the west. Talk about upslope rains!!!! Maybe thats why they are saying 40 in in some spots.
