Re: April Observations & Discussions
from may 2017 thru april 2018, 12 months, our region has had 7 below normal monthly temp departures 2 slightly above (june and july) and three well above normal (august and oct. 2017 and feb 2018). there clearly is a trend, at least here, that we are moving away from the consistent positive departures. I am curious to know what the global temps were during this same period. I would also like to know when was the last 12 month cycle that we had more below normal monthly departures than above normal. just going off of memory that has to be many many years ago. mike or cp would you have that data?
edit. that should be September not august 2017. also we were still above normal for the year in total due to the three very warm anomalies.

Re: April Observations & Discussions
A wonderful welcome to summer like temps are expected this week.
This large eastern ridge is going to allow temps to approach 90 degrees Thursday and Friday. We'll be in the 80's beginning tomorrow (in some spots)

Re: April Observations & Discussions
We went from a negative NAO and AO through much of March/April to what will be a very positive NAO/AO couplet to last through May. There will be a time next week we dip below normal again as the western ridge expands, but I expect us to see another stretch of very warms temps beginning mid-May.
Also, I have locked the long range thread. It will be back Fall 2018.

True but that speaks to me more of how warm the climate has become. Before 1975 this would have been a normal April. Consider that between 1870-1975 there were 43 Aprils colder than this past one.
April was 3.6 degrees below our 30 year normal, which is good, but compared to some of the above normal months we've had like Dec 2015 that was almost 14 degrees above normal it pales in comparison. It's like I've been saying people are adapting to the warmer temps and treating below normal months like an oddity.
It's our new world.
