Why does winter ever have to end?

It's not looking great but I still want a send off on Tuesday of one forum wide decent snow.

My drive this morning, going west

Bloomfield (Elev 175') 8:40 AM - 35* rain with mixed flakes
Glen Ridge (Elev 200') 8:45 AM - 34* rain with mixed flakes
Montclair (Elev 300') 8:50 AM - 33* light snow
West Orange (Elev 450) 8:55 AM - 33* light snow
Livingston (Elev 300) 9:05 AM - 33* light snow, some white on unpaved
Florham Park (Elev 200) 9:10 AM - 32* Moderate snow, big flakes, slight accum on unpaved

Coating on colder surfaces - grass, car tops, mulch, etc.

Snowing moderately here now!!

Light to moderate snow, coatings.

Up at mom and dads fishing for a few days. 2” of snow since 10:00 am. Ripping out 29 degrees

Poor deer

3”. Olivebridge. Ulster county Ny. Still puking snow

Plows are out. 3.5”. Still snowing. I’m hearing back home

4 inches at mom and dads. Just about done. 29 degrees. 2 inches in new paltz. New bergh rain 38 degrees.

55 degrees in the abronx now. I’ve gone from 4” snow and 29 degrees to partly sunny and 55 in 95 miles

Got up to 61 today. Felt really warm when in direct sun.

I headed to New Orleans just in time for t-storms then a "cool down" aka lows in the upper 40s, highs in the mid 60s. At least I am not missing a snowstorm.

40* and Cloudy. Front is south of us so temp will likely only go up a few degrees from here. Hoping it sinks far enough south to get some peaks of sun. Since it’s that season, some really strong T’Storms along the front from Coastal LA to the panhandle of FL this morning. That area produced some tornados yesterday.

My wish is Mother Nature’s command. The sun is just breaking through the clouds here. Still breezy and chilly though.

Made it to 32 in NYC which may be the UHI's last freeze of the season making it close to the average day of April 3.

In the HV the average last freeze day historically is in the May 4th to May 8th period whichever location you look at. I'd be careful about early plantings for those of you new to the area.

CP, I am confused about last freeze day and last frost.In Mahwah NJ, further south of here, my last frost day was May 15th.In fact, one year I planted tomatoes that day and a few days later it dropped into the upper 20's.had to cover each plant with a coffee can.How can the HV last freeze day be so much earlier than Mahwah's last frost? Must be a difference between last freeze and last frost I guess.

Sunny, cold, calm.Looking for some last flakes tomorrow AM.Looks like that could be the end of chances for accumulating snow this season.

Doc we're talking historical averages of the last freeze day. There have been freezes as late as the June 15th to 20th period in the HV, but on average years the last freeze day is between May 4-8 period.

Also it doesn't have to get down to 32 at 2m Temperatures for frost to occur, so the last freeze day and frost day are two different things. It can be 32 at ground level where frost forms but the 2 meter temps where most readings are taken can be 33-36 degrees.

Thank you CP, that makes it all clear.

After a brief reprieve Friday& Sat may hit 70 then a  coldfront sweeps through and we go BN temp wise again for a decent strerch. EPS and GEFS show the NAO negative and PNA positive. Means cold rainy weather ahead with a raistorm Monday and  aossible end game storm interior more so snow around the 17th if teless are aligning.

Tuesday 

Clear and cold morning, 27*. May be last time I wake up to 20s (Tuesday night may come close) until next Fall.
