Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
Oh no. The Post says there may be an “unsurvivable wall of water” and this from CNN: “ Hurricane Laura batters the Louisiana coastline with an intensity the region has not seen in over a century” so radar, reports, effects are sadly evident with no way out for anyone or anything. This time, devastation of unimaginable proportions. What else can 2020 throw at us? I hope nothing more.

Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
Lake Charles is gutted from the early dawn pics.
Storm surge reports were at most 14' in one location and other areas it 10' which was to the east of the eyewall. So the surge was very bad for sure and when more reports come out we'll see what it was in other reporting stations.
Interesting from another board:

What?! 00z GFS pulls a Sandy in LR, with a trough I think pulling a hurricane west into NE, a little earlier and it would gone into NYC area, might that be something we have to watch? Gosh if something like that were to happen it would have to be 2020. 06z has a weak TS into NJ around same time. Euro shows nothing as far i can see.

Euro has been terrible lately, lots of pro mets have been discounting it...

Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
ironic huh. Gfs has handled the tropics well this year. We aren't go know much about that system for a while. I don't think it's even one marked yet by nhc. Busy as it is anyways.Dunnzoo wrote:jmanley32 wrote:What?! 00z GFS pulls a Sandy in LR, with a trough I think pulling a hurricane west into NE, a little earlier and it would gone into NYC area, might that be something we have to watch? Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
Three days before Katrina made landfall in Louisiana (8/29/05), the idea of it reaching Cat 5 strength was beyond anybody's imagination. Three days before Hurricane Michael hit the Florida panhandle (10/10/18), the idea of it reaching Cat 5 strength was beyond anybody's imagination. The longer Sally stays in the gulf over the warm waters, the higher the probability it has of reaching Cat 5 strength.

Doesnt look like anything will be a threat to the EC, looks like gulf and fish storms. Seems might be trend rest of the fall.

Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
Jman you have to see how the pattern sets up with HP systems that MAY anchor over SE Canada and a trough over the GL. There some hints of Teddy with this. Lots of time but needs to be watched. Some of these storms SGOULD NOT HAVE BEEN NAMED. I'd say about 5 of them fit this. Very active indeed.

The position Teddy is in gets him to major but rarely have i seen a system up towards bermuda more NW to the US, I guess its 2020 though! Yeah manly have been barely TS.amugs wrote:Jman you have to see how the pattern sets up with HP systems that MAY anchor over SE Canada and a trough over the GL. There some hints of Teddy with this. May have to keep an eye on Teddy peeps along the coast, maybe more New England but close to brush aside at this point.

Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
Man, some of these storms are over-performing. The one right now punishing the gulf coast is such a slow mover. No trough and that storm is just crawling. They will see some 30 inches of rain and maybe more. I keep hearing “historic” and “catastrophic”. Shame. Everyone is taking it on the chin

Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
Mugs GFS is now showing a stall and further westward movement of Teddy, will have to watch especially since he looks to be possibly a major as progged by NHC, then weakens again but GFS shows major not incredibly far off the EC.

Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
Euro took another jump west with Teddy. After a direct hit with Bermuda, it moves NNW right into eastern Maine.

Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
Yeah Euro phases with energy diving off the EC and pulls it into NE. Still a ways out so we will have to see the interactions with the western flank of the Misd Atlatic 500mb ridge. Does it erode quicker than modeled and recurve(most likely ATT IMHO given the fact that it will be a strong hurricane) or does it cont to push westward and get captured. Ill give it through the weekend before I get excited for now.
