Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
WTH??
Nhc now says tropical storm force winds are possible along east coast.
The UKMET and ECMWF models
suggest that there is some chance that Laura re-intensifies as a
tropical cyclone off the mid-Atlantic coast, but given the
uncertainties at that time range the forecast continues to show it
as a post-tropical cyclone at days 4 and 5.

They are saying most beach towns will be unsurvivable with up to 20 ft surge which would go.iver houses on stilts . this is crazy. The aftermath is going to be nothing left.

Pressure continues to drop and wind speeds up. Expect the 8pm advisory to be very close to cat 5, around 940mb, 150-155mph winds

Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
Can you imagine getting a warning like this?
"Life-threatening storm surge will have catastrophic impacts across Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. Potential impacts include: - Widespread deep inundation, with storm surge flooding greatly exacerbated by powerful waves. Structural damage to buildings is expected with many washing away. Damage will be greatly compounded by any flooding debris. Some areas may be uninhabitable for an extended period of time. - Escape routes and secondary roads can be severely flooded or washed out. Flood control systems and barriers can become stressed or over- topped. - Extreme beach erosion is expected. New shoreline cuts are possible. - Massive damage to marinas, docks, and piers is expected. Numerous small craft will break away from moorings, with many lifted onshore and stranded."
Unbelievable damage to come there

nope, and if I did I would leave of course and pray my home would still be here, 40 mile inland storm surge is unheard of though. Theres going to be nothing left down there.@crippo wrote:Can you imagine getting a warning like this?

40 miles inland of ocean water is not far off from a tsunami, its crazy, this is just horrible and of course my sisters name is Laura, and I called it beginning of season Laura would be one of the majors, so will Nana as she was one of my coworkers and rthats a fairly rare japanese name.@brownie wrote:Sounds like the damage from a tsunami.@crippo wrote:Can you imagine getting a warning like this?

Looks like pressures reading below 940mb, and the readings show a absolutely symetrical and equal on each side eye.

OMG X1000000000!!
Okay last one for this #Laura radar thread since I don’t see how it can be topped. There were *6* surrounding bins that were >200mph so I don’t think this outbound velocity was an error despite the value, 223mph!
Basically KLCH may have sampled an intense NW eyewall mesovort!

Oh no. The Post says there may be an “unsurvivable wall of water” and this from CNN: “ Hurricane Laura batters the Louisiana coastline with an intensity the region has not seen in over a century” so radar, reports, effects are sadly evident with no way out for anyone or anything. This time, devastation of unimaginable proportions. What else can 2020 throw at us? I hope nothing more.

Re: Hurricane Season 2020-Active Season-
Lake Charles is gutted from the early dawn pics.
Storm surge reports were at most 14' in one location and other areas it 10' which was to the east of the eyewall. So the surge was very bad for sure and when more reports come out we'll see what it was in other reporting stations.
Interesting from another board:
