March 12 2022 Strong and Fast Moving Storm - Winter's last stand for interior?

Gosh i really hope I make it back before the changeover, I wanna see this. If I stayed here(which I can't) I would only see rain.  Looks like majority of my trip at least 60plus miles of the 120 will be all rain no matter what time, its when I reach fairfield county I have to beat it. And ya wind advisories up for 50mph gusts, the empanada joke was great lol

18z eps is the snowiest run yet for areas near the coast

Temps crash from 37* in NNJ to 27* in a about 6 hours. It's pressing hard as we move closer.
These are the storms we weenies love. They ramp up positively as we get closer to game time.
Alot like 13-14, 14-15, 17-18 winter storms

Memphis thundersnow!!!

Bodes well for latent heat release with the massive dynamics this storm posses.

3km nam sucks for most near and north of coast. 1-3. big shift back NW with heaviest amounts. Hopefully this isnt a trend back. The issue was there was a large dry slot.

This puppy is full of latent heat as the south experienced overnight and reports around Memphis and N Bama are 5" of snow. Lightening and thundersnow not out of the realm with this later today. Going to be a crazy storm.

I-95 and points SE c-2" including LI/NJ Coast/NYC
NW of I-95 (within 30 miles) 1-3"
Well NW of I-95 2-4" including NNJ/LHV/EPA/Western NJ
I-81 corridor Scranton to Binghamton 4-6"
Elevated areas > 1500' in NEPA/NW NJ/NY State Sullivan and Delaware Counties 5-7".  That extra elevation will matter.  


Storm is moving too fast for much more than that IMO.  Any slowdown which is doubtful would have sig repercussions on accumulations.

Nothing changes with my thoughts.  Cold air is on the move and by 10 AM I expect freezing temps in the interior. It will actually look genuine for a few hours.

37 down from 38 an hour ago and light rsin.

I woke up a bit before 7am to 45º and fog, but by 7:30am it started to drizzle out and is still drizzling at 8:15.

35.5/35.4  Temp dropped 5 degrees in < 1 hour.  Snow has started to mix in.  Cold air advection is evident by the busy winds gusting to 25 mph now.

35 here. Sleet falling from the northwest.  Something like from the 1 o’clock position to the 7 o’clock position.  Slush accumulating on the deck.  Falling fairly hard too

Issue COULD be, we frequently look
At this as a factor that could juice you systems more than modeled and push things further NW - something we frequently root for, but not necessarily here. Though the flow is so progressive it could mitigate the NW ticks.

Snow mixing in with moderate rain now.

The rain portion of the storm has concluded IMBY.  Light/moderate wind whipped snow 33.8/33.6.  Good snow growth in the omega 700mb.  Pretty clear by the dendrites.

Snow just replaced the rain in New Hope; 37, down from 46 at 6:45.

Very impressive dynamics.  32.7 just about hit freezing at the surface.  Dropped 10 degrees in about 90 minutes.  Wind whipped moderate snow with colder surfaces already getting coated.  This will produce near blizzard conditions in the interior I have little doubt about that.

@Mattyice true about latent but not the case here so much. The front is too strong and will press hard. Path of least resistance by nature.

Our NW folks should do well with this. I’m routing for you guys. I still think the map that Mugs just posted by the NwS will expand a tad further east. We’ll see.

31.8/31.7 below freezing now with moderate wind whipped snow.  What better way to start off the weekend!

Colder surfaces completely coated now.  Pavement starting to get white and slushy now.

Grass and rooftops covered in Flemington. Sidewalk and driveway starting to accumulate some snow. Moderate wind swept snow. Low visibility. Can barely see my neighbors house.

Moderate to heavy wind blown snow.All areas covered now.

41 degrees and a few minutes of sleet turned into a few minutes of graupel, and now it's full on snow.
