Re: September Obs & Discussions
Wow, major flash flooding here, roads backed up for miles I gave up parked and walked about a mile or so. I hope my car is there when I go back later tonight. Saw mill parkway had water up to cars roofs have make water rescues near the split to the bronx and henry hudson. Our power was out, then partially out now it is on but the people upstairs have no power. Which is very strange. Wow enough excitement for tonight, also had quite the CTG lightning show for about 3 hrs. The storm over us was nearly stationary.
Terrible in wochester county MA they have had 3-6 and are looking at 2-4 more in one hour! Hearing the flash flooding there is devastating.

Very minor compared to Monday, the rain is over for most from looks of radar and SR models once this line passes.dkodgis wrote:Looks like big time rain

I am going by NWS forecast:
“ Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 11am and 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 73. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.”

It seems to me when the NWS says rain in estimated inches, it’s been more

Currently sitting at 59° IMBY. In anticipation of colder days and nights ahead, I took a peek at current oil prices. It wasn't a pretty picture is all I'll say. I don't want to
ruin your day too. As the saying goes,"be careful what you wish for, you just might get it" comes to mind.

46 also here, Doc.
Greybeard, I know what you mean. Oil is up $10 a barrel in this past month. NYSERDA shows regional pricing by date so there is a “this time last year” comparison. Ugly

Re: September Obs & Discussions
I haven't been around much recently, but here's the deal: About a year ago, my cousin scheduled her weeding for this past Saturday in Cape Cod. When I first learned about this, my gut instinct was hurricane for this time. Turns out, there was actually a hurricane to track in the Cape Cod region this weekend with Lee. Around Tuesday or so, many ensemble members were depicting the worst case scenario for Cape Cod: a direct strike on the region, surpassing Hurricane Bob in 1991 for SE MA's worst hurricane on record. The thing is: my mother prevented me from speaking with my cousin, her sister, or her parents unless she told me what to write. So I gave guarded texts to them, telling them it didnt look great, but models could change from day by day. Turns out the following day, the trends greatly improved. I did end up going to Cape Cod this weekend as planned, but was still concerned about downed trees and power outages.
While there was quite a bit of rain and some strong winds (gusting over 60 mph at times), there were no power outages, and it was just some small tree branches and leaves that fell. The heaviest rain was done by morning, with just some lingering sprinkles throughout the day. And the wind gradually died down during the day. So the wedding ceremony was held outdoors in the late afternoon hours as originally intended. And just moments before the bride and groom kissed, the sun came out!
It ended up being a fantastic wedding after all!
I will leave you with this photo I took at dusk, which was taken right near where the wedding and reception were held.

A friend of mine had a wedding to go to this weekend in Nantucket. Similar concerns to yours, and I think in the end a similar outcome. Haven't checked in with him to see how things went, but from my monitoring of the radar it seems like the worst of the wind and rain may have ended in the late morning/early afternoon there leaving better weather for that evening.

Had .80" of rain overnight. Fall like day and this pattern with an East Based NAO forecasted to settle in towards the end of the month may be an omen for the winter and things to come.

Let's get that pattern clicked in solid by November so we can have an epic winter.

That would be great! Last years grand total of 5 inches from one storm was just a incredible joke, only plus was easy street parking and no back breaking shoveling (hopefully my shoulder, rotator cuff injury right arm, is better from physical therapy by winter).docstox12 wrote:amugs wrote:Weekend storm coastal showing up - buckle up?
