Know Walton very well, Mugsy, passed through there 3 years ago on the way up to Oneonta. How do you like those mountain roads.Been on the peaks of them with 6 inches of snow and nothing down the Valley at Roscoe.Mini climates galore.

I now believe my strategy to control the weather is all wrong.   It is time to repair and polish  all weather related equipment.    Includes mower, edger and Snow Blower.    They are angry and need to be shown proper respect so the pattern can change

I BANISHED MYSELF FROM THIS SITE FOR A WEEK AND ONLY LASTED 3 DAYS!!  A couple of things I NEED to comment on.

First. The forecast on this thread by the young guy that has Syosnow suicide was really funny.
Second. I actually feel bad for guys like Frank and sroc4 who try to forecast this S@#T.  I went back and looked at the long range thread and every week there's a post with scientific terms and model analysis about the cold and snow chances coming soon beginning about Dec. 22nd.  Now it's updated every few days and pushed back 3 to 5 days every time to where now we're looking at "MAYBE" January 7th thru 12th "if" certain things which haven't happened yet happen!!  It's blamed on some Asian weather anomoly which hasn't happened since 1950 yadda yadda yadda.  

Look.  It's simple...we're finally getting the arctic cold we need which is so strong it's supressing our storm for the 29th south and east. (IRONIC NO?) Then the storm around the 3rd or 4th is going to cut west and bring us rain because?  Well just because!! Oh yeah some cut off low in the SW bumping up the SE ridge nonsense.  From my 35+ years SERIOUSLY following winter weather it's pretty obvious that when things go well early they go well the entire winter.  When they go poorly early (and this will be our 13th and 14th potential events we miss on) they go poorly the entire winter.  The cold and storms just don't show up together.  

I love you people on here because you share my passion.  We all want snow.  Guys like Frank, Sroc4 and others do a great job and deserve our respect but HOLY CRAP the writing's on the wall.  It's high time we realize that what was predicted by many to be an epic winter snow wise is going to be a HUGE BUST right before our very eyes.  And don't give me some nonsense about it being early still or one MECS or HECS fixing the entire winter.  Every year even in the worst of winters we get some snow and probably will get a little this year.(personally i believe less than 12 inches total thru March)
Meteorooigists study patterns.  Well then REALIZE WE'RE IN A CRAPPY ONE AND IT'S SET IN STONE!! Constantly reading about some possible storm or pattern change in the future that never works out is driving me insane.

Syo, as Doc said, a great post.Feel so sorry for you,Man. if I could, I'd arrange it to dump 24 inches over your area.That being said,and I know this doesn't help, waiting is the game right now and there are a few, at least, possible improvements in the next few weeks.

Personally, I have seen a 12 inch snowfall near the end of March 1970 and a Blizzard of 12 inches April 1982 ( or 1983, I'm blowing out circuits as I age), M arch 1960 mid month 18 inches, so I never give up until March 15th.We are due for a killer March around here.

It really is amazing how in the winter, it can turn around pretty quickly.Three full months where snow is possible.

Meanwhile I golfed agin today. 2nd time in less than a week. Don't people usually go to the desert for golf and come here for cold and snow?

The only difference is that our four are rainy, rainy, snowy and road work. All I have to do is change snowy to cloudy. No snow is bad, but throw in all the gray and it's maddening. This area just finished a run of 18 straight days without sun and we're now 1 day of sun in the last 22 days.

A lot of the winter outlooks you read this season probably mentioned a -NAO/-AO to dominate for much of this winter. While this is no longer the case, for reasons I do not really know but may attribute to a highly negative QBO and active sun, there is growing optimism we're getting there. The following two graphics from the Euro model shows SSW in the 10 mb level of the Stratosphere in key areas that would translate to higher heights in the NAO region at the 500 mb level. If this verifies, there is a chance we undergo a second pattern change between Jan. 25th-Feb. 5th this time leading to a -NAO/-AO couplet. Still a lot to iron out so we'll see what happens.

I have tried to stay very positive during this winter season but with no snow in sight (which takes us to mid jan.)this winter is becoming a major disappointment.. realistically our winter season is dec 1st through march 1st so half our winter is basically over. with that said I elect hector to become the new snow weenie king. mugs your time is up and I will give you one last shot but if you fail on your promise of the jan 7-10 snow storm hector will be my king. after all he has been right so far this winter. all hail hector!!!!lol
