Re: Wx Banter Thread 1.0
TWC makes me very humble today. In they end they were right Euro NAM was obviously wrong. GFS wins they called east and the city out from the beginning to end

There were no grey areas on this one, it was GFS vs the NAM/EURO and they picked the right one.I had mentioned yesterday an epic model battle would ensue and it sure did.

LOL, send Cuomo to this board and he'll realize we already have the most "sophisticated weather detection systems" and even they fail as we just saw.Typical CYA politician's statement.

Yeah, tell him to hang a handkerchief on his clothesline....If it moves a lot, it's windy, if it's wet, it's raining, if it's stiff, it's cold outside...
He'll be more accurate doing that.

Its just amazing to me that with such a large storm, 50-100 miles can make such a huge difference

Re: Wx Banter Thread 1.0
I went to bed after frustration set in past my limit early this morning. So much lost sleep and for NOTHING but a regular 6 or so incher making my total probably around 8 inches, had this not been talked about the way it was I would never have been upset about 8 inches but here is why i am upset. My credibility at work is shot, when i go back tomorrow I am going to have to hear it all day its gonna be a miserable day of heckling. You all did what you do here and you did it well no one saw that sinking air area coming. I am seriously thinking about moving back to central CT where it is still snowing they must have 3-4 feet by now (no idea just guessing by all that insane banding last night I saw). And the worst is my job will never close again for any weather event no matter what my CEO is i know teeming at the seems and probably going to make us give up a days pay or work a weekend (plus now I have oneless day to meet my quota for the month which I am far from and I am off Thursday for medical reasons so I have to meet 12 clients in two days! How its impossible!), and even worse millions of dollars was lost in the NYC economy and spent on preparations for a laughable event, sorry just had to vent, and the governor, I honestly do not blame him for feeling the way he does, he made himself look dumb as hell to those that do not understand wx complexities like here. Will I continue to watch the weather ya sure, but my sleepless nights and such are over for now, I am not thinking about a snowstorm later this week 5 inches, that means i get .25 inches. It is just a bad place to be for good weather here, we miss the extreme on anything all year round, except rain which always overperforms. The exception was sandy and anyone could have done without her. Out, need to focus on school through May not the weather. I just have to ask one thing the wind was quiet as a duck all night but now its howling? What gives with that? Now I have to go out to clean off the cars in blistering cold which just adds insult to injury. Thanks to the big guns here for doing your best here its not your or any mets fault.

At least it's enough to make the kids happy and use the snow blower.
Hat tip to our Long Island friends, who always seem to get screwed one way or another. No mixing issues for them this time.
Hat tip to TWC, as much as I hate to say it, and the new GFS too. Both will need to do more of the same to gain the collective trust, and the NWS and others will have to work even harder to gain it back.
Big BIG thanks to all the very tired and haggard people here who did their very best.
Frank, mods, this is a great place you got here and you did a nice job through all of the ups and downs. Very tough forecast. Please keep doing what you're doing.

On reflection, this storm was a lot like NEMO with a lesser amount on LI but still pretty good.I remember the NAM had my area, Mahwah NJ with some insane snow totals which did happen but 50 miles east.Same thing with this storm.NAM modeled me for huge amounts but, again, it shifted 50 miles East.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a 30 inch report on LI when all is said and done.Bands just sitting there and refuse to move.

Looks like we have one storm for the new GFS. We will see what it brings with the rest of the precip coming down the pike. A learning curve for it for sure.

Doc was NEMO Feb 8, 2013? I checked my records and we received 16.5 inches in HV from that one. Not sure if that's NEMO though, stupid WC names.

Dunzoo I didnt think about that wow, uur right we were talking about how would we know if the new GFS is good, could we now have a model over the euro? But the consensus in CT RI and MA is multiple feet, my parents sent me pics the snow is above the white picket fence and covering part of first floor windows, im so jealous. Surprisingly with the height of winds no one really lost power another fail by power companies hiring in so many overtimers including a friend of mine who works for coned and is at normal work hrs now and blames me for being wrong, am I a met? Last time i checked no.

February 2010, the city got 21 inches, the HV got 36 inches and your parents got 5 inches. It comes and goes and all evens out in the end, over 100 years anyway. Sometimes being east helps, sometimes it brings you rain.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 1.0
Sometimes Mother Nature gives us the equivalent of what in hockey or football we might refer to as a "make-up" call. I remember a few winters ago when I was in South Jersey some of my friends in North Jersey complaining that they missed the brunt of two early season storms that buried Philly/SNJ, but were less dramatic north of I-195. Then a late February storm dumped on central/north Jersey. I think we may get our "make-up" call before this winter is over.
