This................
Long winter - has been about 6 month since our last flakes fell.
Question to all and I am researching this - when was the last time we had in the burbs back to back freezes in October???
Depends on which burbs. It's very common here in October, the towns within 15 miles of the heat Island not as much.
I'm surprised Newark got to 31 last night.

You are rural in my book or as they say ruburbs - the rural burbs like Western Passsaic, Morris County, Northern Rockland, Weschester, Lower Orange Counties. Growing up in teh 70's and 80's we called these places God's Land or the sticks lots of wooded areas, farms, open land - we ruined it (IMHO) Big foot lives in these areas!

I was a little surprised too...but while Newark is a hot spot during the day, they do radiate very well at night by urban standards. Unofficially, a few neighborhoods within the 5 boros touched freezing so it was quite a cold shot.

Re: October 2015 Observations & Discussions
The first few days of this week will feature dry conditions with temps ranging between 68 to 74 degrees. Once the weekend and early next week comes around, we'll see another drop in temps into the 50's. We're not looking at organized rain until middle of next week (check long range thread for updates on possibility of a large storm system impacting the area between 28th and 31st).
For now, enjoy the tranquil weather

Had to visit an office in Wappingers Falls for work early this morning, Foliage is nice up here. Quite a bit a leaf drop actually as you get into Dutchess county.
Its a dramatic change from 0-5% change to near peak conditions within an hr drive.

LOL Al, even I know that's not true. Still no one wants to get wet at a wedding.

Tour de Bronx bike ride this sun, I was hoping for dry weather. If rain is inevitable will it be of the light/widely scattered variety?
NYC marathon on Nov 1, Nov looking to start above normal it seems?

Hopefully this is how we see the pattern setup this winter, nino supposed to be peaking now and should weaken but could remain stable for a while, important couple months to see where it goes by the new year.

The showers on Sunday morning will be very light and brief. Between 5-8am. You probably won't even notice it.
