James,
This is my great uncle playing the accordian. We must have danced for at least an hour. Will take me a week to recover from these last 2 days. Then it's New Years...

My gawd! It's like listening to my kids. Do I have to send you to your room until you stop whining? Winter is coming. Your going to have to deal with summer until it gets here. merry Christmas Pisano!
Here's the thing:
As of today this December is the warmest in history as we all know:
However it is also over 8 degrees above the average of what use to be the warmest December ever.
It would also rank right now as the warmest March in History.
It is one degree below being the warmest November in history, which just happened last month
The average temperature this month is also one degree from the average April monthly average.
If NYC does not record a trace of snow this month it will be only the second time in 146 years that they have gone this late in the season without that occurring.
If that isn't a good reason to whine, kick, scream, and have a temper tantrum then we may as well retire the banter thread.
Merry Christmas to all, and a special Merry Christmas to our experts who don't tell us what we want to hear, they just tell it like it is.
That's why I can't stand any of them right now. JK
I repeat, it's always darkest before the dawn, and some of what I'm reading from our experts today tells me it may be close to 6:30 am, and that would be a really good thing.

It has been a just miserable Nov and Dec and your stats bring that out, CP.
Our Long Range crew do indicate that things will eventually change in our direction.May I add in my humble analog way that reversion to the mean, a mathematical phenomena set in concrete, will take effect and I am betting that Feb and Mar will make up for this horrendous stretch.

Stop torturing me Syos. This has to be way up in the panhandle region I would assume. If it's the Dallas area I give up.

Above normal temps all next week is what I'm seeing. Don't think Tuesday will be anything, but still crappy conditions such as slick roads. If you keep your hopes low, then when something happens it will be awesome or so I think lol.

Not quite true.
In March last year NYC had more snow than Boston. They just had that ridiculous 5 week period late Januray through February.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
In all seriousness for that to happen we would need the NAO to be in a negative phase once the pattern fully reverses. That would help to slow down the west to east progression of weather systems which would greatly enhance phasing scenarios. We are overdue for sustained blocking during the winter season. Something we haven't seen now for several years.sroc4 wrote:skinsfan1177 wrote:I can't wait it's been a long time coming!!nutleyblizzard wrote:Here's hoping we have a similar historic period this year. Also how in the world can we say Boston had less snow last year than NYC? Didn't Boston have like 100+ inches by the end of the season and nyc like 50 something?

NUTLEY,
Read what chief and I posted simultaneously *well almost,
from what Miguel had to day, we r ahead of track with the change and feeling is we start some high latitude block 2nd half of Jan.
The trop forcing is going to have major effects diwnstream, once tjis mjo wave goes favorable which is in the midst of doing, then we se this take over and we see the AK vortex deepen and retrograde sw of the aluetians and pump up th ejam on the west coast into BC, Canada and AO going neg with a trough in the SE. Heights will bridge over the pole and slide east to help give us a - NAO. Evolution of rhe 2015-2016 winter pattern in a crazy nono time period.

I hear you Hector. Talk is cheap right? Speaking of talking similar to last year you seem to have a lot to say in December when it's warm and snowless. Will you continue to contribute to the board when/if the pattern goes cold and snowy in early to mid Jan this year, or will you go silent again like you did last year after it got cold and snowy?
