Gotta call you out on this one. I am in the town right next to you, and no way no how is there anything close to 1" to 1.5" on the ground. It has been snowing steadily for over 3 hrs. and NOTHING has stuck to the ground at all. There is nothing there to be measured.

GreyBeard look at the picture I posted on the last page. That was at 9:45. It snowed hard for another hour and a half after that. It’s still snowing. You think I’m going to lie about an inch?

Here’s another pick I just took, and it’s been slowly melting now for over an hour!

Perhaps it is because you are not in Syosset? I'm in Jericho and nothing, and I mean not one flake has stuck on the ground or even the car.

Re: January 16th-17th Snow Event
LOL, my problem is just the opposite.I measured a total of 3.75 counting yesterday and today but the "trained spotter" of the NWS has Monroe at 10.00 AM at 5 inches.I defer to the trained spotter as I am sure that person has better measuring ability than myself, ( our own Janet is one too). and have not seen CP's report

I’m at work in Great Neck 8 miles west of you. My son at school in Syosset says the ground is white?

I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm just saying there is nothing on the ground where I am right now. I guess you were in a good spot in Great Neck as noted by your pic. It will all be just a memory by the weekend anyway.

No problem. I’m telling you a few miles and Elevation is making a huge difference. My house is at 180’. Where I work 200’. Parts of Jericho, especially right by the LIE and Hicksville border are under 100

30* and very light snow but just about done. Picked up another .5 for a total of 8 in Hyde park. If you were under that band in mid-hudson area you did well.

I took a stroll through Central Park earlier this afternoon. There was some light accumulation (likely several tenths of an inch). Hopefully the Conservancy picked up on it.

Been snowing for a while. Coming down at a good clip. Dusting on the grass but mostly white rain. Temp down to 32 so roads may get icy. Dot was out salting

Several locations, albeit very scattered, have reported totals in excess of 6", with many in the 3-6" range northwest of the main corridor. Certainly more than I thought would fall, and I still can't honestly understand how, but a bust is a bust. Enjoy your white gold, everybody!!

5.5 is a good amount Jim, but being a bit further north did make a difference this time.

2" here in the sunless spots as James has said the snow was compacting and melting as the sun angle Rose after 9 a.m. would have easily had three to four inches if temps were in the 20s. 24" for the year one more moderate storm and I'll reach my normal snowfall for the winter. And we still have a solid 2 months to accomplish that

Re: January 16th-17th Snow Event
Had to leave at 7:00 this morning so I’ll go with Docs final tally of 3.4 inches.
Weird storm snowed for hours 10-15 miles north and west and nothing here. Sometimes you will n sometimes you lose. Anyway happy for Hyde, Jim, Damian and all the others in north orange dutchess and ulster that jack potted with 5-8.
Brings the seasons total to 23.8. A little above normal for the date so no complaints.

CP, there was about 1/8 inch more after I measured and shoveled so bring that to 3.52 .Now, here's my problem. The NWS trained spotter for Monroe has 5 inches but my ruler told me 3.52 total. There are some pretty high hills in town , I'm in a kind of a valley, but a 1.58 inch discrepancy seems high.Anyhoo, I have to go with what I saw and measured with my eyes.

GreyBeard I gotta say you were kinda right. My school got 1 1/2". I drove home 11 miles east and there's zero. So I get why you questioned me. There was no snow within 1 mile of where I work. Below is s picture of a parking lot at 2:45 at my school after a lot of melting. In the future I don't lie about snow

Re: January 16th-17th Snow Event
4.3" total here in Fishkill. My parents back home in NEPA had almost 8". My dad just measured 7.3" about an hour ago, so accounting for compaction would probably put them in the 7.6-7.9" range, approximately. Unfortunately, I had to leave yesterday to make sure I could be here (Fishkill) to work tonight, so I couldn't play in it
