The entire north bound side from NYC on Saw Mill parkway is closed (after McLean Ave) 5 massive trees came down, nobody can get through i asked the police he said people would likely be stuck on the highway till at least late tomorrow!! Tree trucks cant get through they said likely have close both sides to take care of it. The trees are enourmous. I took distant pics but am go try get better onces. Takeout entire north side and a bit into south. Was crazy here, I am thinking was over 70mph, as quickly as it came it left. I narrowly missed getting by a very large branch falling i should not have been out driving i did not realize it would be like that.

Winds blowing now are as bad as during the heart of the storm. Getting that freight train noise.

Lost two big oaks by me. One landed on the main line running to my house and ripped the power and cable lines clear off the corner of my house. Could have been worse. So far it’s not the house.

I’m in Wayne and the winds have picked up here again too, a large branch just fell on my roof. My neighborhood is littered with large trees. I’m in the Ridge Rise Townhomes near Ratzer Rd/Hamburg Tpke. Our power lines are underground so we have power. My sister is in Lions Head Lake area they have no power.

Just got a notice from my town PD that 70% of our town has no power.  I am very fortunate to have power!

It is beautiful weather out there now.  I have all the windows open and the house feels fresh from the wind, which is now down to a nice breeze.

I was not expecting these back and wins it was so quiet and sunny sunny and then suddenly the wind started kicking back up I'd say they're 40 50 miles an hour again we're still getting more damage I can't believe how much damage has been honestly I can say this definitely rival Sandy in terms of wind here anyways I lost power when it was sunny out I was right walking outside thinking it was perfectly fine I knew it wasn't the eye and suddenly the line exploded right near me and Sparks went everywhere and the Lights Went

The bad-half was my track, as I was about 100 miles too Far East. While my ideas of a deeper trough verified, the eastward progression did not. I’ll have to go back and see why later. The good-half of my outlook was the intensity; this system pretty much remained steady-state after the initial strengthening occurred upon exiting the islands (fluctuated around a mean high-end tropical storm).

That said, I am really not seeing the reason for a lot of the excitement for these big winds up this way. I think it’s pretty much going be the rain that becomes the story with this system. Wind-wise, I don’t think it’s anything to write home about. You’re not dealing with the type/degree of baroclinicity that you need in order to generate the kinds of wind speeds some of the models are printing out. The dynamics aloft are impressive, no doubt, which is why you’re seeing all the rain across PA. But the problem is that’s largely not going to translate all the way to the surface, in my opinion, because of how the dynamics are being distributed. I think those of us along and east of the track see some 50-60 kt gusts, but no more than that. I’m on LBI, so I’ll be the first to say I was wrong, though lol

Mother Nature heard you, and she wasn’t happy you doubted her. Wink

Tropical Storm Isaias - Page 11 Ab84cf10

That doesn’t count lmfao that was a tornado. I just checked ACY obs and the fastest gust was 57 kts......that’s about 63mph. I’d say that’s a verification lmao checking other obs now to see. Looks like NYC region had some high winds, I’ll revert with confirmation shortly.

Oo btw, I’m ok haha glad to see you are all too!!

Farming dale was confirmed at 78 mph, though, but I think those speeds were largely the exception, not the rule, like was advertised by most models.

Yonkers doesn’t have an ASOS, Jman. I took some from around the region as best I could, but keep in mind, there will obviously be differences from one locale to another. Overall, though, I think it was pretty close.

It’s also tough to judge because the amount of force you see exerted on trees, signs, etc. goes with the square of the wind speed, plus some other factors. So, for example, if you have a 10 mph wind, the visible force you see is closer to 15 or 20 mph. Then you have to scale that up. That’s why wind always seems so much stronger than it actually is.
