Re: Dec. 24/25th High Wind & rain storm thread
It was 59 degrees at midnight. The rain came harder, and the wind was steady at 29 mph with gusts of about 45+. Power out since 2 am but just a few pockets around us without power. Snow is mostly gone. Just a few traces.
53 now. Seems strange to have no heat or woodstove on Christmas Day.
Merry Xmas all.

My temp went up to 62* last night and Teterboro recorded a gust of 67 mph. Now my temp is down to 54. About 1.4" of rain so far.

Definitely had very strong winds last night but not a lot in the way of damage or power outages down here, just some flickering of lights. Bigger issue in spots appears to be the rain and saturated rivers/ground as several river flood warnings are up in Eastern PA and NJ.
How strong is the Cold Front? This tells the tale:
Current Temp in State College PA 25*
Current Temp in Philly 55*
Usually State College runs 5-10* cooler due to elevation and geography, but even taking that out, a 30* difference over 180 miles is sharp.

Yeah, this def verified for majority of the area. If there had been leaves it would have been much worse, trees don't come down as easily with just the branches less force. There was siding ripped off a building it was metal so it was banging all night, my daughter loved all her gifts. I am posting something important but not happy in banter as we just got sad news.

This was certainly an interesting case study regarding the theta-e against other parameters. Based on this single event, it would appear that it’s not a “be all, end all” when trying to determine if winds will mix down to the surface, BUT IT MAY BE USEFUL in determining whether/if convection would be needed in order to get them down within the context of the other factors. The result of this case study? We need more wind lmao
