So true DOC and BE GRATEFUL for each and everyday. It can all end in an instant without us knowing as much as we think we control this life we'll not true.

On that note, I walked around the pond in Monroe this morning, cloudy, cold but no wind so it was ok.They recently put up some historical markers and one stated that when they excavated back in the day for the Northern part of the pond, they found 6 feet under a Mastodon skeleton! Guess he answered to the name of Lucky.Anyway, they shipped the skeleton to the Museum Of Natural History in New York City where it joined some 40 other Mastodan skeletons found thither and yon!

Cool to think where I walked today Mastodons once roamed.

The WMCA broadcast tower still sits out in the swamps in Kearny on the Belleville Turnpike. I pass it often when I go to JC/Hoboken.

Very, very cool,Pete, never knew the transmitter was there.Started in 1940, the building has an Art Deco look to it.570 AM, yep.I would go back and forth between that and 770, WABC.Sometimes one would start a top 10 song just as the other station was ending a play to grab the listener,LOL.First station to play the Beatles, how cool is that! Must have been in 1963, "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah...", LOL.

I would hold off on saying such looking latest Strat, EPS LR maps for some areas. Time will tell but a retrograde Scan Block and a Ridge Bridge being shown again on EPS with again the Strat Warm is going to be something to see. You have a dying EL Nino that wants to pump as you show and those do not go away quietly as we have seen.
Many declared 2018 a Ratter then March hit through early April and the rest is history.
Time will tell but when you have MANY pro mets harping at the same time it definitely peeks ones enthusiasm, excitement and interests!!

Mugs if we had an established golden pattern at end of January/beginning of Feb I would not have made that statement, but time is a factor here. You also have to consider the air mass must cool which also takes time. February 2010 was one of those perfect storm things in peak climo where Baltimore/Philly had 53" of snow. Feel confident we're not getting to those levels this February. Does that mean we cannot do well? Of course not.

Airmass should not need time to cool in Feb. Once the high lat blocking goes up, and all indicators note that occurs between 12th-14th-ISH our air mass is likely to flip light a light switch. There is a bit of a reshuffling process that goes on, a bit of back and forth between now and the 12th, but if the ensembles are correct, which of course needs cautious optimism still at this lead time, many will be canceling the season between the 8th-12th and then like a freight train it, the artic blast should come. Then of course the staying power is the next question that you rightfully so IMO stated we need to use caution for now.
The LR pattern has looked unreal in the long range over the past few years, but the reality of the LR is when it came to reality is the LR has been nothing short of false advertisement in way too many instances over the last few years.

By time I mean days not weeks. The preceding Omega ridge is going to make the atmosphere much AN next weekend. After that it remains to be seen how quickly and how much blocking occurs to push storms under us to facilitate cooling the air mass down. A lot for the coastal plain to get in the game earlier may depend on if a storm can deepen rapidly and pull colder air down sooner and setup a 50/50. However, IMO interior is favored for frozen until that MUCH colder push occurs. It could be as late as 2/17 IMO for the immediate coast but I think interior has a better shot before that. That being the case would I be shocked if coastal plain got tagged with something on 2/15ish? Nope not with that PNA modelled and not with a potential 50/50 to compress southern flow out ahead of an approaching storm. But I do NOT think LR pattern is false advertising this time. I'm more concerned about its staying power and of course discrete threats are just that and can wallop an area while leaving others high and dry. I hear a lot of chatter elsewhere about this being Feb 2010 REDUX and I caution against thinking that ATTM. As you say cautious optimism...

Just don't try driving past after a rain storm, or heck, even high humidity days. That stretch of Rt 7/Belleville Pike floods almost daily.
