Another reason for the underperformance in NNJ was due to subsidence. Basically a wedge of sinking air that shuts off or significantly reduces precip rates. There were 2 bands of 700mb frontogenesis both to the north and south of NNJ which put them in between this area of sinking air. Unfortunately when the storm is a little disorganized the way this one was, these can be common. Even in an organized storm I’ve seen subsidence create a “snow hole” over localized areas.

22.6/22.4 3" OTG very light snow. it probably will snow a bit more as the storm gets its act together. Won't be too much more. Given the way the winter has been to date and the fact the snow will stick around for several days it's a win in my book.

Just goes to show you can never be sure until the storm hits and you see many hours of heavy snow heading your way.This was not seen even as late as last nights forecast!

Looks like snow is done here, 1 1/2 to 2 inches OTG will wait for trained spotter report.

1.0 inch. Sipposedly we got more 1.5 in last one. Rediculous they called school for this so wife has take a vacation day. It used to take 6+ to even have a delay. Well okay maybe bit less but still. Off to work. I hear pingers on my windshield.

It was a bogus record to begin with. Two consecutive days last February with 0.9 inches and they kept going on about how it hasn't snowed an inch for two years. Definitely a bad stretch but what's the difference 0.9 or 1 inch. The way they measure either day could have easily been more than an inch.

Officially 1.4 inches so far in Central Park, 0.4 until midnight and 1.0 since midnight.

The next thing we will probably here is it hasn't snowed over 1 inch in Central Park (they never qualify in a calendar day) in 702 days. Media hype and madness.

My office is in Bridgewater but I'm hardly ever there. Nice area. Usually does well in snow totals from my recollection. Well, usually Rolling Eyes

25* with some scattered light snow/flurries here. Have about 2.5” out there, not expecting anything more. So in short, the original 2-4” call was on the money; the increased 4-6” call the NWS made late yesterday did not materialize. I said before I’d be happy with a couple inches to coat the landscape before the cold settles in, so I’ll take what I got and be happy. But sure hope the end of week system materializes.

Up to 1.25” here. (A big 1/4 inch increase in the last four hours! LOL) Still snowing with very fine snow. The schools in Parsippany are closed too.

I was very surprised to wake up and see such little snow, when the NWS advisory was saying 4-6” when I went to bed around 10 pm.

Cloudy with dry slottedness in Hillsborough. A little over 2 inches of snow fell. Schools still closed due to icy roads and car accidents around the area. Expected a bit more the way it was coming down around 11-midnight but happy we got some at all.

Ok I just woke up..lol to plowing? And it's lightly raining at 28* so I went back out and measured 1.5 inches..so maybe we had more at that ungodly hour I was out on the deck..all I know is I have snow cover for the first time in 2 years!!

And this to why your username I am guessing. Yes the updated snow total is now 1.4 so I guess it did break. 0.9 and 1.0 is no difference, it is really being petty lol

The dreaded "light glaze" in the WWA last night is coming to fruition here. It turned to sleet and rain here about an hour ago and we're sitting at 28 degrees. Radar still shows it snowing here, and WU says it's snowing here and will snow a few more hours, but it's not. Roads were salted so they are just slushy, but any surface that was shoveled this morning is now a turning to a nasty layer of ice.
