All weather forecasting is opinion based on what people think the models say. Some people may be overzealous and others not so much. At least it's on topic. If your on here long enough you know who's forecast are accurate and who's are not. No need to ridicule people who aren't as educated at reading the models.

If you look after Frank, or sroc4's posts amongst others, I am ALWAYS one of the first to comment in a positive manner and thank them for their work. I also would like to see a post where I've ridiculed a specific person on here.

syosnow94 wrote:I've been following the weather closely for 35 years.  I have a professional job and 2 masters degrees.  I AM NOT A GENIUS.  But I am a respectful guy with a sense of humor, and I'm not an idiot either.

We're on this forum to discuss weather.  That includes making forecasts, analyzing them, discussing them and even complaining and venting about them when frustrated.  I just re-read the rules for the site today.  I have not directly attacked anyone, especially the serious METS on here.  Nor have I broken any of the forum's rules, yet I've had two posts taken down today in other threads and had some negative comments thrown my way! (I'm not speaking about the most recent one on this forum either. Math I'm not mad at you, you seem like a great kid)  I had a great time meeting with you people at the get together and hope to do so in the future.  But there is a "holier than though" feeling on here with certain people.  What's everyone's problem?  We're frustrated snow lovers and weather fanatics.  Stop taking yourselves and everyone else's words so seriously.

SYO, I completely understand what you're saying and actually encountered a similar situation last season & experienced an, Ah, undesirable outcome. I was banned for respectfully questioning a MOD's words and actions, and eventually the ban was lifted. I had no say and was in essence told to 'zip it or not come back'. I do not agree with a lot of the 'sensitivity levels' on here -- and think some of the overreacting is due to the issues we had on the abc7 chat with DISRESPECTFUL, mean posters and that blog become a HOT mess. And I don't mean temperature. ;-) SO, in short, just post non-negative weather updates pertaining to the actual event. Anything else is considered 'banter' and they don't want to see it on there, despite some of them posting frustrations themselves. No one is perfect -- but the difference is, we are not moderators on here so we will lose in the debate. I'd rather enjoy the info I get on here than entertain a power struggle of what is a 'right or wrong' post. It's easier.

As always, thanks to Frank and others for helping teach those interested about meteorology. We all share the SAME Love. :-)

You are respectful. A nice guy too. But the content and the context in which you post on the MAIN STORM threads is very painful to read. Myself and Sroc among others put a lot of effort into our forecasts. And yes you praise them and us, but you indirectly bash them too when you start posting stuff like "we went from a Godzilla to slop storm" or something along those lines. I do NOT care that you make those type of posts. Just do so in Banter.

James, I am hoping to make a post on this forum within the next couple of days that will give a lot of members from the old 7-online board something to smile about (as well as the others such as yourself). It will not be related to this winter but I think you will still like it. Though I think that one that will smile about it the most is Frank.

I know for one it gets frustrating when you love snow like I do. For me its about the MONEY which all who know me I work for the town and plow snow. Yes I will admit I get gready and when things don't pan out I get upset or frustrated. But the guys on here offer great insight and for me its been a great learning experience. I appreciate all the the hard work that goes into the in depth analysis and time to do so. Everything has to be taken into perspectice and everyone takes it differentally than others. However, I do and have learned that Mother Nature can change very fast and often. So with that being said embrace weather for what it is and yes I want SNOW! Very Happy

I always enjoy the posts and possibilities offered by people far more weather educated then myself. Thank you. Although its been a frustrating winter, I would rather understand the possibilities then not know what may be down the pike. The anticipation and following of a major snowfall is part of the fun.

I guess it's a sign of things that the banter thread is almost as busy as the discussion thread, but it's good to have a place where folks can share their sorrow.

I've been holding it together as best I can, and the potential of Monday's storm is making it all okay for now, but if Monday isn't a big hit you can bank on an epic rant from me, complete with whining and moaning and possibly expletives, albeit creatively censored, and of course a new avatar.

Totally. It's kinda like what they say about a bad day fishing. I'd rather have a bad day of storm tracking than having no storm to track.

Breaking news,

It has recently been determined that the NWS has been letting out 2-3 lbs. of air in their weather baloons which has resulted in false data readings. Update at 11.

Within 24 hours the forecast for my town has changed dramatically. The total snow forecast has been lessened as per the almighty EURO by an entire foot while the storm is still forecast to be just as strong and on the Benchmark. Unbelievable. Comical actually!! Win for the American models?

Not really. GFS was never on the BM until 6z this morning. EURO has been there for 2+ days

Not for nothing but looking at Franks 1st map its just like what we all went through on Sunday Had to deal with all the rain and 50* Its almost like turning into a carbon copy of that. For 50 years I always knew how difficult it was to get it to snow here When you think you have a handle on science something else comes up Just so many layers to deal with But through it all its one of natures most interesting and exciting thing to follow The knowledge of all on this forum is amazing I'm just a old blue collar guy Back in the day I wish I had the internet

I'm an old head just like you, Oldtimer, and your statement is absolutely correct...getting major snowstorms up here is like threading a needle.Too far west, snow, slop, rain.... directly on the coast, warm air advection, sleet to rain....too much cold air, OTS.That's what DOES make it exciting when it all comes together like Boxing Day 2010.No internet like this incredible site.We had to listen to radio or tv.

Last March, Tom (Njweatherguy) and Ryan (Quietace) made fantasy snow maps for a hypothetical "Frankzilla" blizzard. Here is the link:

As for Ryan's map, James (syosnow94) and I both know that a many snowstorm cases with a rain/snow line issue that Bellerose, Floral Park, New Hyde Park and points south get a lot less snow than places like Douglaston, Little Neck, and Great Neck.

Here is the link:

Dunz, years ago we made Kahlua, coffee ice cream and half and half with lots of ice.Remember once we brought a big jug of that to a drive in on Route 59 in Spring Valley to see a Dracula Movie.Don't remember getting home that night,LOL!

You'll be able to make that with fresh snow instead of ice these next two storms.Whatever we get with both will linger as snowpack as it really gets cold next week.

huge favor to ask from u guys, taking my relative to a lacrosse clinic up in Ithaca this weekend that he is pumped for....the clinic is Sunday, plan on staying up there Saturday night....I know areas west will miss the majority of the weather.....but were driving up from the southern Monmouth County area....to avoid the hassel of whatever weather we may get...does it look like my best bet is leaving early Saturday (guesstimate time would be great!) or wait til this pig goes OTS and drive up later Saturday night? Much appreciate the advice, ty!

The storm is moving in around 1am Saturday. So either you leave Friday night or you wait until Saturday night. Storm will end around 4pm Saturday, so maybe leave around 5 or 6pm?
