Re: Roctober or Ghostober 2021
Wow. Lol yeah prolly as to the wind fix. Has it been damaging over there or is it not as bad as stated. Breezy here but nothing too much to say. I'm just hoping we can get this big storm as snow in Jan!!sroc4 wrote:

Re: Roctober or Ghostober 2021
Just went outside roaring here too very windy. Probably not like LI but it is loud with the trees having leaves.sroc4 wrote:Ended up with 6.25” of rain. Pretty impressive. Winds are def gusty. Jon I’d imagine you would be like a junkie getting his fix listening to the roar this am. Lol. Regarding the flooding I’d imagine that like most areas there is a lot more concrete and pavement in and around any given area making flooding a lot easier when compared to a few decades ago. Less area to absorb rain and more area to funnel more water to specific lower lying areas. It’s certainly like that by me compared to when I grew up.

Re: Roctober or Ghostober 2021
Although copious amounts of rain fell, it was spread out over many hours unlike Ida. Flash floods are a 'flash' because 4"+ of rain falls literally within a 2-3 hour span.

My buddy who lives directly on the water in Green Harbor just texted me:
“Holy F - - -! High tide right now. Waves over the wall. House shaking like bombs going off”
At 3:59am the Beachcomber in Wellfleet gusted to 97mph! You can see on the graph that winds are slowly beginning to come down now. pic.twitter.com/xWhyycERWM

Woodcliff Lake reservoir started at 90' before the storm, is at 93' as of noon today. It has a capacity of 95' I believe. They didn't put the gates up to "catch" the water, which might have prevented some of the flooding issues. What was going in from Park Ridge was coming right out in Hillsdale.

Buoy 44029 off MA Coast reported 32 foot waves for three consecutive hours and then just stopped reporting.

Re: Roctober or Ghostober 2021
Fall weeeknd!
Crazy how ocean temps got knocked down by some 10* + from the Nor'easter which chills/cools our temps moving fwd. with E and NE winds
I can't recall such a drastic water temp drop over the course of 48 hours, but this is what happens when you have well above average warmth and then a slow-moving, strong Nor'easter churning up the ocean. 12° drop recorded by the Great South Bay (LI) buoy, 10° in Nantucket! ️ pic.twitter.com/F3qshSWMAn

He didnt edit it. LOL its actually real Jon. Here is Upton:
https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=OKX&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1&highlight=off
A tight pressure
gradient develops to the northeast of the approaching system and
north of the occluded frontal boundary. Most of the surface pressure
progs show strong tightening of the gradient towards 21-20z. This is
when winds will really start to ramp up from SW to NE across the
southern half of the area, especially right along the coast. Will
not make any changes to the wind advisory has is in effect for NYC,
Long Island, Southern Westchester, and Coastal CT beginning this
afternoon and continuing into tonight. BUFKIT profiles look rather
impressive with the potential for a few 45 to 50 mph gusts, thus
right on the bottom edge of wind advisory criteria. The window does
look rather short, maybe about 3-6 hours of the strongest winds, so
its possible the wind advisory could be taken down slightly earlier
than its current expiration time.

They did add southern Westchester after that. I got alert. Weird though it's like Westchester initially said nope it's go be windy to west and east but not in between. Upton is weird.sroc4 wrote:jmanley32 wrote:Lol nice editing u got me at first..how you do that and keep the map? Good one.amugs wrote:jmanley32 wrote:Is this just mt holly area or upton too? I think Upton just made a mistake on the map cuz the discussion says southern Westchester but that map doesn't have it shaded. The map on weather.com does though. Regardless getting strong gusts all day but really picking up now. Fit perfectly with the early Halloween even we were just at.
