Re: Monitoring February 4th
down to 36.7* here. Question is do temps plummet to 34-35 and stay there or do we get to below freezing and have ice

It's going to take into the mid/late afternoon to go below freezing I think for most folks. The cold air is oozing as opposed to blasting through compliments of the close proximity storm. By that time precip won't have much longer to go. The ponded water on the ground will definitely freeze at night and that will be hazard.

Re: Monitoring February 4th
As many have noted temperatures are quickly crashing and there's still a decent amont of precip left to fall.
http://moe.met.fsu.edu/~mnissenbaum/RadarArchive/KDIX/loop.html
The near-surface temps are at or below freezing across NW and extreme NNJ, and obviously already below freezing N&W of NYC.
Real-time obs show freezing rain falling in those areas, as indicated by the #2
The freezing rain line will probably sag a bit more south, but precip should shut off by Noon

Hovering at 32* and just plain rain so far. 1.5" of rain since yesterday, the yard is a sloppy mess.

Here’s an update on the freezing line. Hasn’t really moved south that much…

Most folks dodged a bullet today w.r.t. icing. Hopefully for those that got iced they keep their power and remain safe. Ice is no joke...

Re: Monitoring February 4th
Look at how close this is to something MUCH bigger ice wise as the HV has been getting hit pretty good. IF this was 25 -30 miles or even 50 miles more south there'd be really big problems and it was quicker coming in.

Rough situation in the Hudson Valley, with ~600 outages ongoing (~50K people). While we're waiting for more ice observations to come in, @nysmesonet estimates highlight the peak outage zone with ~.7" flat ice (~.3" radial). This is often an outage inflection point. #nywx pic.twitter.com/XD8XbG4PSO

Unfortunately this miserable dreary crap will be with us for several more hours. Won't be particularly heavy, but just enough to be miserable. A fitting end to this storm.

My workplace up in FairLawn closed up at noon. I drove home in a cold rain. I think my boss jumped the gun with her decision to close early.
