February 25th 2022 potential snow/ice for mainly well NW of I95

.1 to .5 in NNJ is bad ....very very bad.

Freezing rain turning to snow in Westfield, NJ. Started at 10pm.

I am out here closer to your hometown Taffy in eastern CT new london county, still a bit before anything starts over here.

Just went out to shoo a raccoon out of the yard and nearly lost it on the deck. Sheet of ice. Be careful out there!

1/2 inch of sleet on the ground in Stillwater NJ at 1190 feet altitude, 25 degrees out and everything has a coating of ice, sleeting out, Salt trucks ( thanks guys ) just came thru!

Sheet of ICE out....told the dog don't even think about it...Belleville NJ.

Bad, Bad, Bad out there. This is the worst weather to travel in. Stay Home. This is worse than driving in snow.

30* and a steady Freezing Rain. Everything coated with ice here. Looking at radar will be socked in with this for a few more hours, which - if so - probably means a good amount of ice here by sunrise.

Other thing with this ice, the thicker it gets the next few hours the harder to get rid of after the temps gets above freezing so roads/sidewalks can remain treacherous even for awhile after a changeover to plain rain.

Last hour in peekskill snow changed to sleet. Quarter to half inch of snow had accumulated.

Im not seeing how we get any descent snow out of this as was forecasted

Absolutely ripping snow here in Uncasville, CT. No ice or sleet. Beautiful, guess I chose right place to be. Looks like a few inches already maybe. everything is well covered can't see grass.

23 degrees, can't tell what is coming down but it is not snow.Maybe an inch total of whatever.More sleet on the way for later.Huge bust low from NWS 3 to 6 up here.

left work in peekskill around 500. 23 degrees and sleet. Got home in Wappinger 21 degrees and heavier sleet. A dusting of snow on ground. Nasty out roads are slick but I dont think we will be getting our first good snowstorm of the season in Dutchess with this one.

I don’t think it ever snowed here.  The sound of sleet woke me up around 2 am, and when I looked outside, it seemed to have just recently started, with just a little sleet on the ground.  Woke up again a couple of hours later to the sound of pouring rain, which I assume was freezing rain.

Looking out now, I see the plow came by and it doesn’t look like much accumulation, but it’s still raining.  There’s a good glaze on the trees, although it’s hard to see in a photo.

I’m really hoping most of this melts later on.

Reports of NE in particular CT folks upset over busting low.  NWS uses model blending which is the way to go for most events.  Most models picked up on the general idea of the synoptics, but not the NW extent and strength to which the mid-level energy traversed.  The NAM picked up on this well.

Here is your 850mb low and my guess is anywhere south of Mass Pike folks will be disappointed.

The mid level lows are way up near Buffalo. It’s no wonder even those who saw temps in the 20s experienced sleet/freezing rain. Nothing here just lots of slop.

31* still in freezing rain here with a good ice coating. Watching people try to scrape the ice off their cars. Not fun.
While I hate freezing rain, at least this is all that was forecast here. I’d probably  be p***ed if I was in one of those areas up north forecast for several inches of snow and got sleet and frz instead.

Note how far north the 540 line (red line through Buffalo).  It's not an exact r/s line but showing just how far north warm air is.

I feel like the NAM had a pretty good handle on this. Was always conservative on the southern extent of the snow, even as it corrected south at one point, and had the freezing rain pretty well nailed.

Up to 32* here. Should be going over to plain rain here shortly, probably by 9. Gonna let the warmer temps later this morning take care of that ice on my car before I even try to scrape it off.

I’d also note that heehaw’s statements about the Low placement in Western NY were prescient. That should have been a major red flag for any sig snow south of there.

Looks like the Nam did the best with this storm based off what's going on in SNE and upstate NY.
